Irazu is active and very reliable in the views of the crater. Enroute is the Basilica of Los Angeles, largest Catholic Church. Learn about the pilgrimage held every year on Aug 2nd.
Another must see is the Lankester Gardens. Started by don Carlos Lankester and donated to the University of Costa Rica in the 70's it is beautifully maintained natural exhibit of hundreds of species of orchids, bromeliads and the like epiphytes.
Then drive down to Orosi Valley and enjoy a nice lunch here. There is time to visit colonial Orosi church.
